"Another Hundred People"

First up this morning, I'd like to thank everyone who sent birthday wishes my way.  Between the blogosphere and Facebook, I felt like Mr. Popularity on the 17th.  I also appreciate your comments regarding my first finish of 2014.  I'm still working my way through replying to my blog comments, and if I missed you, I do apologize and thank you for taking the time to stop by and/or comment.  I promise I'll do a better job of responding to comments in the future.

And speaking of comments, it looks like another "milestone" is approaching my little piece of CYBERSPACE - I have almost reached 200 followers.  (Hence, the title of my post this morning.)  And, what better way to celebrate a milestone than ..... a giveaway?

That's right, folks - when I eventually reach the "200 followers" benchmark, I shall host another giveaway here on Cabbages and Kings.  I'm not sure exactly WHAT I shall give away, but I promise it will be something nice and definitely stitching-related.   Stay tuned in the coming weeks for more info.

Here's a bit of "Broadway show" trivia - does anyone know the name of the show where today's blog title hails from?  A bit of "Kevin" trivia -- I was in a production of this musical back when I was in college.  Yep, that's right - at one time before the back issues plagued my every waking hour, I was a bit of a "song and dance" man.  Well, maybe more of the "song" and less of the "dance," if truth be told!  My singing is now saved for the shower or when I'm alone in the car.  You're welcome!

Have a great day, and I wish you lots of happy moments filled with needle and thread this coming weekend. Stay warm if you're in a part of the country dealing with those horrendous sub-zero temps!

    1. No worries! It's a rather tricky trivia question. I am a theater geek and love this composer's shows, but I don't think too many people would know this song or show

    1. Thanks for the birthday wishes. And, hey - that's what's so great about the Internet - I love looking up weird things like this. Yep, I'm a NERD but proud of it. ;-)

    1. Thanks Margaret!
Yes I did have loads of fun when I was younger and more adventurous (and flexible! Ha ha!) That's great that your son enjoys this as well. I think it's so important to keep the arts alive - both the performing and visual arts.

  6. Company, I believe, is the name of the show? Would love it if someone filmed you when you were a song & dance man : ) You don't have too far to go to reach 200 followers!

    1. Yay Shirlee! You guessed correctly. Company was a Broadway musical in the 1970's and it had a revival on Broadway not too terribly long ago. It's the story of a single guy in NYC who is surrounded by married couples as his friends. "Being Alive" is probably the most famous song from the score, with "Side by Side" another popular Broadway show tune. "Another Hundred People" talks about the hundreds and hundreds of people arriving in NYC each day (on the train or the plane or the bus..) despite NYC being a "city of strangers." I'm a huge fan of Steven Sondheim's music and lyrics. ;-) I have lots of photos of my stage experiences, but not many videos, alas. I'll have to scan some of the pix to post here some day.

    1. GULP! 1 degree? Yikes! Hope you're bundled up in a blanket while you're stitching. My hands would be too frozen to work, I think!

  9. I'm not a huge Sondheim fan (I'm more of a Rodgers and Hammerstein gal), but I was in "Into the Woods" in college, and that was fun. And the hubby was Lee Harvey Oswald in the Atlanta premiere of "Assassins". =)

    1. Whoa! Two performers in your family, and both have been in Sondheim shows - that's very cool in my book! Are you and your husband professional performers, Heather? How exciting!

    1. Thanks, Catherine! Yep, you got it right - COMPANY. I was Peter in the production - the guy getting divorced from his wife, Susan (I think?)
